Libre (free as freedom) computing workshops - May 2026

Friday, 01/05/2026, 21:29 h.

This May 2026 in Asturias (Spain), Pica Pica HackLab (PicaHack) organizes a program of introductory libre (free as freedom) computing workshops, aimed at people with little knowledge of the subject but interested in the ethical, social and environmental implications of computing technologies.

The libre (free as freedom) computing movement advocates that software (computer programs or applications) and hardware (the physical or material components of computers) should can be used, modified, and shared by anyone, without imposition of technical, legal, or economic restrictions, as rights and freedoms for all people. Additionally, information should also be equally available. This is fundamental not only for the own good of person individually but also of the population in general. These rights and freedoms become even more important as our daily activities become increasingly intertwined with computing: in a world of digital words, sounds, and images, libre (free as freedom) computing in particular and libre (free as freedom) access to information and knowledge in general represent a fundamental part of the exercise of rights and freedoms in general.

Pica Pica HackLab (PicaHack)'s May 2026 activity agenda has the collaboration of Free Software Foundation (FSF).

About Pica Pica HackLab (PicaHack)

Pica Pica HackLab (PicaHack) is an active group for the promotion and dissemination of libre (free as freedom) computing (software, hardware, services, formats and protocols). Throughout more than a decade of uninterrupted activity, Pica Pica HackLab (PicaHack) has obtained significant achievements such as the first FLISOL in Europe (in 2010), the only free software 30th birthday event in Spain (in 2013), Richard Stallman's first conference in Oviedo (in 2015, and also the second in 2018), reaching the the Asturian parliament to be the first parliament in Spain to support the international campaign "Public Money, Public Code!", and being the only FLISOL location on the planet that has always been 100% libre (free as freedom) software over the years (uninterruptedly since 2010), which has consolidated us as a reference in terms of dissemination and promotion of libre (free as freedom) software.
